 John BERGER (Southern Metropolitan) (14:34): I would like to acknowledge the successful strike led by the Transport Workers’ Union at FedEx a couple of weeks ago. On Friday 28 August TWU members across Victoria and the country walked off the job in a show of strength against FedEx’s attack on their job security. But while workers were exercising their legal right to take protected action, FedEx disgracefully locked out workers from their worksites. I stand in solidarity with all those workers who took industrial action, and I will continue to support members of the mighty TWU fighting for the respect that they deserve and in their fight for fairer protections against AI and automation. As a former secretary of the Victorian and Tasmanian branch of the TWU, I understand the necessity of fighting for fair conditions and the importance of industrial action in this process. I would also like to acknowledge Michael Kaine and Sam Lynch for their hard work and organisation in facilitating this nationwide strike. I will always back the TWU as they fight for fairer and more just conditions here in Victoria and across Australia.
