Bridget VALLENCE (Evelyn) (14:33): (1748) Under the Carroll Labor government debt is soaring to a shameful record of $200 billion, and under Labor’s state budget Labor is taxing Victorians $50 billion more in a cost-of-living crisis, with taxation increasing 5.1 per cent every year because of the Treasurer’s gross financial mismanagement. Land tax bills have quadrupled, with Victorians being forced to pay $7.7 billion in land tax, which is hurting home owners and renters. Labor have even stated they will keep charging the COVID debt levy until 2033. My question to the Treasurer is: why is Labor hurting home owners and renters with the COVID debt levy and skyrocketing land tax? Only our Liberal team has a plan in government to lower taxes and reverse Labor’s 2023 land tax hikes by raising the land tax threshold back to $300,000, saving over 270,000 Victorians up to $975 per year and making housing more affordable.
