Kathleen MATTHEWS-WARD (Broadmeadows) (14:40): (1755) My question is for the Minister for Public Transport. I ask: what is the expected completion date of the Upfield shared path extension? I have been advocating for the connection of the Upfield shared path to the ring-road bike paths for over 20 years. We have seen significant progress over this time. When I worked for the former member for Pascoe Vale Christine Campbell, we were able to get the path extended to Merlynston, as well as a signalised crossing on Bell Street. I continued my advocacy during my time on council, and next we got the extension to Box Forest Road, as well as lighting along the path. The section from Box Forest Road to the ring-road, which I call the John Englart path, is nearly completed. This missing link will also connect with the Box Forest Road path and the Merri Creek and Moonee Ponds Creek paths, something I have been very much looking forward to since Joe and I used to tow our kids in a bike trailer when they were too little to ride their bikes on our Sunday rides. I know members of the community are also very excited. I am hoping we will be able to have a community celebration soon. I thank local advocates for their support of this project.
